Make
Your Mother's
Day
Meaning-Full
and
Spirit-Full
|
|
Many people say
mother's day
represents just
another
Hallmark
holiday, a
chance to
purchase cards
and gifts and
spend money.
Indeed, The
National Retail
Foundation
claims Mother's
Day is a $14
billion
industry, and
retailers
report it as
the second
highest gift
giving day of
the year behind
Christmas.
Google Trends
shows a sharp
spike in search
traffic for
"Mother's Day"
on Mother's Day
in the US and
UK and the
month leading
up to it.
Florists see
their highest
sales in May.
US restaurants
claim that it
is their
busiest day of
the year. Long
distance
telephone calls
also peak on
this day. And
the US Postal
Service
experiences
increased
volume during
the surrounding
days. Even
Hallmark admits
that 96 percent
of American
consumers take
part in
shopping on
Mother's Day.
Rather than
taking a
commercial
approach to
Mother's Day,
take a
spiritual
approach. You
won't be the
first person to
do so. Many
countries have
chosen to make
Mother's Day
about religion
to some extent,
and the early
history of the
holiday goes
back to
honoring
different
goddesses.
Making this
holiday
spiritual can
be a welcome
approach if
your mother has
passed away or
if you feel
estranged from
your mother.
For those who
want to make
this day
spiritual, all
you have to do
is focus upon
honoring the
Divine
Feminine,
whatever that
means to you.
If you are
Christian, you
could do
something in
celebration of
the Virgin
Mother Mary. If
you are Jewish,
you could do
something to
honor the
Shechinah, who
may not serve
as exactly a
mother figure
or a goddess,
but she is the
feminine aspect
of divinity.
For Hindus,
celebrating
Shakti might be
an appropriate
way to
spiritually
celebrate
Mother's Day.
Or you might
choose to do
something a bit
more pagan or
even secular,
such as simply
seeing this
holiday as a
time to offer
gratitude to
the Divine
Feminine-whatever
that means to
you-or to
Mother Nature.
The Divine
Feminine has a
place in almost
every religious
or spiritual
tradition, and
it's very
powerful.
The female form
of the Divine
always has the
ability to give
birth or to
bring forth
something new.
So, by all
means make this
day spiritual
and celebrate
and revere the
Divine Feminine
in all its
glory.
And you don't
have to be a
woman to do so.
Men can join in
this
celebration of
the feminine as
well.
Now, if you
want to take a
meaningful
approach,
simply go for
doing something
beyond buying a
gift or taking
your mother (or
any mother) out
for breakfast
or dinner.
Trying one of
these options
instead:
- write her a
poem
- make
her a
gift
- write
her a
letter
- list
all the
things
she's done
for you
that you
appreciate
and
laminate or
frame
it
- give
her some
IOUs for
chores
around the
house or
meals
cooked (or,
better yet,
show up to
do these
things for
her on
Mother's
Day)
- Write
an apology
for past
bad
behavior
- Heal
any past
issues with
your
mother
At the very
least, a
meaningful way
to honor you
mother on
Mother's Day
involves simply
caring for her.
She cares for
you all the
time...or did
through your
childhood. It's
nice for mom to
have a day off
and be coddled,
cared for and
told she's
special and
appreciated.
Motherhood is
often an
underappreciated
job.
These are
things any
mother will
treasure and
appreciate-and
find
meaningful.
They come from
your heart, not
from a store.
You don't' have
to use my
suggestions.
Actually search
your heart for
ideas. What
would you or
could you give
your mother
that would
really tell her
how much she
means to you?
When you come
up with an
answer, give
her that.
This year,
don't just buy
a card or a
gift or sit
around feeling
like you have
nothing to do
on Mother's
Day. Make this
holiday
celebration
meaning-full
and
spirit-full.

Practical
Spirituality:
Daily Prayer to
Take Time Out
for
God
|
It's easy to
get so caught
up in our lives
that we forget
to pray or to
connect with
God. That's why
some of the
major religions
suggest set
prayer times
during the day.
While some
advocate for
long prayer
periods, short
ones can help
us remember
God, connect
spiritually and
provide a great
practical
spiritual
practice.
For
instance, Jews
pray three
times a day, in
the morning,
afternoon, and
evening.
Muslims pray
five times a
day, before
sunrise, after
the sun begins
to decline from
its zenith, mid
afternoon, just
after sunset,
and at night.
Christians
don't have a
set time other
than on the
Sabbath,
although some
people say
morning
devotionals or
bedtime
prayers. Yet,
Jesus taught to
"pray
ceaselessly,"
or all the
time.
Buddhists
pray in a
different
manner than
other
religions,
chanting
mantras and
participating
in devotional
meditation
practices.
Prayer and
meditation
practices vary
considerably
from one branch
of Buddhism to
another, with
some gathering
once and others
gathering twice
a day to pray,
chant or
mediate. Yet,
in Tibet,
prayer goes on
most of the
time.
For those of
us who want to
connect with
God, to have a
spiritual
experience, or
to have a
spiritual
practice,
prayer serves
as the
foundation for
almost all
other practices
and rituals.
However, prayer
times and
practices don't
have to be
long. You can
pray as you
wake up in the
morning, as we
do in Judaism,
thanking God
for another day
of life and for
your body parts
all working and
for your soul
being returned
to your body
once again
after a night
of exploring
the nonphysical
world. Or you
can say a
prayer at night
as the
Christians and
Jews do prior
to bed.
Christians
often pray that
their soul be
kept safe while
they sleep.
Jews recite the
Sh'ma, their
most sacred
prayer, and
also review the
day asking for
forgiveness for
any wrong
doings.
Or you can
find another
time to pray.
Rebbe Nachman
of Breslov
suggested
walking in the
fields and
talking to God
like a friend,
pouring out
whatever was on
your mind and
in your heart.
Sometimes I do
this while on a
walk or a bike
ride.
You can pray
during
meditation.
Pray first-the
talking to God
"part" of your
practice-and
then
meditate-the
listening to
God "part."
You can pray
for a moment
before you
begin your
work, prior to
driving your
car, as you
leave your
house, at 12
noon, at 3
p.m.. Or take
on the practice
of the religion
of your birth.
Put on
teffillin in
the
morning
if you are
Jewish (and
whether you are
a man or a
woman). Get a
prayer rug and
use it five
times a day if
you are Muslim.
Try praying
even once a day
if you are
Christian. Go
to a temple and
participate in
a chanting
service if you
are a
Buddhist.
You choose
the time, the
place, and the
frequency. But
choose a time
and a place to
take time our
for God daily.
If you don't,
you and God
will never form
a
relationship.
Remember,
quality time
connecting with
God doesn't
have to mean an
hour spent
praying. Five
or 10 minutes
of prayer with
an honest
intent to
connect will
suffice. It's
all in the
intent and the
consistency.
That's why all
these religious
traditions
created these
prayer
practices-to
create
consistency. To
make sure
people stopped
and remembered
God often.
Now,
stop...remember...take
time out for
God. Make time
for
God.

What is
Pure Spirit
Creations and
Who is Nina
Amir?
|
|
When you tap
into the part
of you that was
created in the
Divine Image,
when you allow
your energy to
flow from the
place within
that is part of
the Spirit of
the Universe,
you can create
anything your
heart desires.
Pure Spirit
Creations helps
you consciously
manifest your
dreams by
teaching you to
tap into your
spirit, focus
your thoughts,
words and
feelings, take
positive
action, and
develop the
knowing that
all is -- and
will be --
well.
To help you
create your
visions,
achieve your
goals and make
your dreams
come true, Pure
Spirit
Creations
offers classes,
workshops,
lectures,
essays,
booklets,
newsletters,
special
reports, and
books designed
to help you get
in touch with
your spirit,
realize your
dreams, fulfill
your potential,
and live in a
meaning-full
and spirit-full
manner.
Although some
of the
teachings and
principles
offered by Pure
Spirit
Creations are
Jewish in
nature, they
can be used by
anyone no
matter their
religious
background or
their spiritual
bent.
Nina Amir has
spent the last
30 years on a
spiritual
journey, which
took her away
from her
religious roots
and then back
home to Judaism
once again.
While searching
for "something
more" in her
religious and
spiritual
practice and in
her life, Amir
studied
metaphysics,
New Thought,
wisdom
traditions,
Kabbalah, human
potential
techniques,
meditation, and
a variety of
self-help and
self-realization
methods.
Although much
of Amir's work
revolves around
Jewish topics,
it incorporates
much broader
metaphysical
and spiritual
concepts as
well and
applies to Jews
and non-Jews
alike. She
concentrates
her attention
both personally
and
professionally
on infusing
traditional
religious
rituals with
meaning and
Divine
connection, on
developing
positive and
practical
spiritual
approaches to
life and on
learning how to
manifest goals
and dreams
through
conscious use
of thoughts,
actions,
feelings, and
spiritual
practices.
Thus, she
serves as a
"Jewish
spiritual life
coach" or what
she likes to
call a
"Kabbalistic
conscious
creation
coach."
Amir sees
herself as an
"Everywoman"
whose struggles
and successes
are not unlike
anyone elses.
She writes and
teaches from a
place of
knowing we all
share similar
experiences and
what has worked
for her likely
will work for
others - or at
least it will
give them a
starting place
from which to
find what works
best for them.
This is where
Amir's
spiritual
journey meets
her
work.
Amir works as a
freelance
journalist and
non-fiction
book writing
coach and
publishing
mentor/consultant,
an author, and
a speaker. Also
trained as a
rebirther, a
Voice Dialogue
facilitator and
an intuitive
Tarot reader,
she combines
these skills
with her
knowledge of
Judaism,
spirituality
and human
potential and
personal growth
techniques to
help others
live life
fully.
She is also the

expert on

Everyone
Has A
Torah
|
|
In Judaism,
we are told
that
everyone
has a
Torah. The
Torah is
typically
understood
to be the
scrolls
containing
the Five
Books of
Moses or
the Old
Testament.
So, how can
we each
have a
Torah?
The Torah
also
consists of
the wisdom
held with
those
sacred
texts. Each
time we
find
ourselves
with a new
understanding,
a new
wisdom
about
something,
we possess
a Torah of
our own.
And each
time we
share our
own wisdom
-- each
time we
share a
teaching or
our own
knowledge
about
something
-- with
someone
else, we
offer our
own Torah
to
others.
Through
this
newsletter,
my books
and
booklets,
my blog,
and my
classes,
workshops
and
teleseminars,
I hope to
share my
Torah with
you. And in
the
process, I
hope you
find your
own Torah
as
well.
B'ahava
v'brachot

and
Blessings),
Sincerely,
Nina
